Isn’t it adorable when the two sisters hug? We like to get family photos like this and capture them throughout the years, which is awesome for a sequence of photos that show their growth and change.

The Glendora Arboretum has a selection of bushes and trees that make for a natural and rustic backdrop, a step up from the average park setting.

And we always love getting a few pics of the parents by themselves. It brings back fond memories of their wedding photos and the days before children…LOL j/k we notice that parents are so focused on kids that they forget themselves. It’s nice giving them an excuse to laugh.

And we love that the natural wildflowers at the Glendora Arboretum and Botanic Garden, which are seasonal. These purple and yellow flowers made a perfect backdrop to wrap this little kid in.

And of course we squeezed in the whole family in the same beautiful spot.

Them we did some mommy and me and daddy and me photos. We like to squeeze in those fun permutations during our family portrait sessions.

And what better of a way to end the session than with a little kiss.

Family Photos at the Glendora Arboretum

Starting in the Redwood Grove

Carbon Canyon Regional Park has a 3 acre redwood grove that is absolutely amazing for family photos.

Here’s our cute family with two daughters and the family dog.

I love the way the sun comes through the redwood trees.

Back up to Carbon Canyon Park to finish the Family Photos

After the redwood grove, we hiked back up to the lake (and yes, it’s a 1/2 mile hike) to finish up the session. The lake has a dock that lets us catch our family over and across the water.

Carbon Canyon Regional Park is a great place for family portraits. It has tall redwood trees that aren’t seen normally in Southern California. It has hiking trails, some with scenic and rustic wooden fences. The small lake has a dock that makes for awesome family photos across the gentle water. Judy started the family photography session with both of these cute sisters, being loving sisters.

Oh and this year they had a new addition to their family; a new and adorable puppy!

And here is the whole {R} family together for a family portrait.

Here is are family photos with a large tree where we could sit them on it like a log. This is one of the reasons we love doing family photography at Jeffrey Open Trail.

Then we went down the path to a tunnel, which makes a great backdrop for these family portraits. Orange County family photos are seamless when you have a beautiful location to shoot at.

After the tunnel, we headed to a small creek bed for more Irvine family photos. Gotta love the cute leg extension!

And it’s always nice to get photos of the parents together, by themselves.

And here is their cute little puppy dog all by itself.

These are family photos in Irvine, at the Jeffrey Open Trail and Park. There are two adorable daughters and a puppy dog. This family is one of the families we get to see year after year, watching their family grow and mature. It’s a real pleasure and honor to be a part of that.

Starting on the Streets of Downtown Los Angeles

We started with the family strolling down Grand Ave. They have two grown daughters, but you can tell that they are a close family.

Walt Disney Concert Hall Family Photos

We then went to the Walt Disney Concert Hall for more portraits at the front entrance.

Up to the Garden Level

We then proceeded up the stairs to the Garden level, which features the nice contrast of the green trees with undulating reflective metal panels.

We love how the tree was blooming beautiful red flowers, casting them softly on the ground below.

Sunset Family Photos at the DWP Building

After the Concert Hall, we walked over to the DWP building, right in time for the amazing sunset and the array of blues, pinks, and purples that graced the sky.

See how the colors get progressively more saturated and beautiful? We live for moments like this, and this is where it pays to have a family photographer that knows lighting and timing for a sunset.

The water fountains of the DWP building came on that night. We have shot at this location for many years (over a decade), watching as they suspended the water fountains during times of drought. We loved watching them come back on to grace the Los Angeles skyline for amazing downtown photos.

Grand Park Family Photography

We then walked over to Grand Park to finish the family photography portrait session. The lighting of the blue hour was in perfect alignment with the ambient light from this massive and … grand … water fountain. Look at how amazing those colors are, which is a rare thing in most family photos. This is what urban and modern family photography looks like.

Downtown Family Photos – Los Angeles

This is an amazing example of how urban and modern family photos in downtown Los Angeles can look, varying from soft, natural light family photography at the Walt Disney Concert Hall to dramatic and rare sunset family photos at the DWP building (with a view of the Los Angeles skyline) to the colorful and modern family photos at Grand Park at nighttime. This also shows a portrait session with two daughters, but grown children (that listen a lot more than our toddlers!).

Starting on the Streets of Downtown Los Angeles

We started on the street level on Grand Ave. outside of the Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH) in downtown Los Angeles. Their choice of blue tones and colors matches well with the silver, gray, and blue tones of the WDCH area.

We then walked up to the garden level for more family photos. The garden level offers exactly that; a modern garden that’s a mixture of well-groomed green trees with silver, metallic curves of metal and concrete.

We then walked up even higher to the highest level on top of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which is nicely more remote and quiet. Judy used this as a chance to get cute family portraits of the two daughters together, along with individual portraits of each daughter by themselves.

Judy took this family photo from directly overhead, which is a very unique perspective for a family portrait. Modern. Urban.

And here is where we can see Grand Ave. in the background as the curves of the Concert Hall frame our lovely family.

Department of Water and Power (DWP) Family Photos

After the Walt Disney Concert Hall, we walked over to the Department of Water and Power (DWP) building for more family photos with the downtown skyline. What a view!

This is a great example of Walt Disney Concert Hall family photos in downtown Los Angeles. Our lovely family wore blue tones for their color motif, which matched nicely with the metallic tones of the concert hall. They have two beautiful daughters, which makes us think of our own two daughters!

San Dimas Family Photography

We started their San Dimas family photography portrait session with individual portraits of the older daughter. Isn’t she just adorable!?

Then we had the mom step in for some mommy-daughter family photos.

This is a great example of San Dimas family photos at Walnut Creek Park and Trail. We have a loving family of four with two daughters, one a toddler and one an infant baby girl. We actually have two daughters ourselves, so we relate to the family dynamic! Our family wanted a natural and green backdrop that was outdoorsy with nature. San Dimas has many hidden gems that we know of, and we thought this one would be perfect.

Starting at the Huntington Hyatt Regency

We started the session at the large water fountain at the Huntington Hyatt. Here are their two loving daughters hugging each other.

And it’s always fun having the two children play during a shoot. It breaks up the family photography session, making it easier on the kids.

We then walked over the bridge that connects the Huntington Hyatt resort with the beach (of Huntington Beach). It has great converging curved lines that frame a family photo so well.

We can see the sun starting to get closer to the horizon, so it’s off to the beach to capture that sunset.

We did some quick family photos under the Huntington Beach pier, right before the sunset. Again, the Huntington Beach pier has awesome converging lines that help frame a family photo so well.

Then we caught the sunset, which was a glorious rich orange tone that day. We love how the sunlight was bouncing off the swash zone and beach face.

We got family photos at the Huntington Hyatt water fountain and the bridge that spans PCH, along with under the pier. Family Photography in Claremont

We started the session with the two lovely daughters on a trail in Claremont, with a scenic wooden fence in the background.

We often do individual family portraits of each kid, especially since it’s cool to see these portraits change over the years.

And after that we got the whole family together. Every family is different, so we throw them together and see how it goes, building from there. You can see that this family has fun with each other!

And it’s always nice to get family portraits of just the parents together.

Walking around the California Botanic Garden for more Family Photos

We then walked around the grounds at the California Botanic Garden for more family photos, starting with the sisters holding hands and being … well … sisters!

Claremont Family Photos

This is a Claremont family photography portrait session done at the amazing California Botanic Gardens. It was formally the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens (which is a mouthful), and originally was in Santa Ana/Yorba Linda before it moved over to Claremont to protect the trees and other specimens. It has the largest collection of native Californian vegetation and plants. This session had a family of four with two daughters (we totally relate to that, but our two daughters are only babies).

Here are two sisters posing together for a family photo!

And you have to love it when there are fall leaves to toss in the air.

And how cute is this family photo of all of them together. The great thing about this is soon that little baby boy will get to join his sister at school one day.

Here are two sisters that both go to the school. Aren’t they so precious?

It’s a beautiful thing watching two sisters playing an laughing in family photos, and we would know considering that we have two little girls ourselves.

And here’s the whole family going for a stroll.

We brought a picture frame as a prop to add some fun to the family portraits. It’s a portrait of a portrait?

And here’s another family starting off the session with the whole family. Some sessions start with just the kids, while some start with the whole family. Judy tries to figure out the best way to capture the images, and timing the kids is very important (especially if it’s near a nap time)!

And here’s a brother and sister holding hands together.

Isn’t that so adorable seeing them like that. We can only imagine that he’ll be there to protect her in high school from the other boys!

And here’s the whole family together. If Judy tries to recreate this family photo in five years, I’m sure those little kids will be making funny faces.

Higginbotham Park Family Photography

This is a great example of how Judy can handle a large number of family photos in a short period of time. It’s stressful, but it was for a good cause and we got a lot of awesome family photos. Higginbotham park is one of those hidden local gems that was great for family photography, but also a great playground for the kids that were hanging out with their preschool classmates. These family portraits included many trees and leaves in the background, with a very natural and green backdrop.

We started the session on the front steps of the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the two daughters. We have two daughters ourselves, so we love seeing that sisterly love in family photos.

We walked up to the garden level at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which has corridors of metal panels with beautiful curves and polished surfaces.

The garden level also has many trees that add a splash of green and a natural element, contrasting with the modern, urban architecture.

This family photography portrait session took place at the amazing Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. The concert hall is an architectural marvel and makes a perfect modern backdrop to any session.
