Carbon Canyon Redwood Trees

We started the session at the Carbon Canyon Regional Park Redwood Grove. It’s a local secret spot that requires a little bit of a hike, but it’s worth it for the amazing backdrops.

Then we brought in the grandparents for some pictures of the whole family. Three generations of an Asian family. That also could explain the red color theme.

And it’s always cute to get a grandparents family photo with their adorable granddaughter.

And a family dog too!

Gotta love the towering redwood trees, all in Southern California.

There is a wooden fence that can make a beautiful frame for our lovely family. One trademark of a good photographer is the ability to compose, using the foreground and background to tell a story about the subject.

How adorable is that little smile?!

These are some of the moments that we love to capture the most. A glowing family with their baby girl. The smiles. The laughs. I can hear the baby giggling that laugh that only infants do.

Carbon Canyon Family Photography at the Regional Park in Brea

This family photography portrait session was taken at the amazing Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, CA. There is a Redwood grove with many adult redwoods along a hiking trail. This is a great example of how Judy captures a family with three generations, grandparents, grandchildren, and the lovely couple that joins them. This is a Chinese family from Orange County. We then moved into the wooded area for more shade and a forested look.

Here we have the two daughters with their mother.

It’s always fun to add a little humor into the family photo session.

And here is the large family portrait, with two grandparents, two daughters with their husbands, and four grandchildren.

And it’s always great getting a grandparent and grandchildren family photo.

We then walked over to a hiking trail with a long wooden fence running along one side (which makes a great backdrop for portraits!).

And of course we had to get individual photo portraits of all the grandchildren.

There was this amazing pier sitting on the edge of the small lake. Note that the mom is hiding right there in the bushes to make sure her son is safe!

This is a great example of family photos at the Yorba Linda Regional Park in Orange County. It’s also an example of how Judy handles larger families and groups, getting a variety of poses and configurations. In this case, it’s a large family consisting of grandparents, grandchildren, and two families from the two daughters. Starting with the Grandparents

We started with family photos of just the two grandparents together, getting them like that probably haven’t in many years. It’s always fun to see that they love each other in photos.

Getting the Whole Family Photos

We then proceeded to get the whole, large family photos together, with all three generations.

Here are the grandsons

And here are family photos of the grandparents with their adorable grandchildren.

The we got the sub-family together for family portraits.

And Judy did more individual portraits of the grandchildren (grandsons) by themselves.

More Large Family Photos on a San Dimas Trail

We moved over to a dirt trail to get more family photos surrounded by trees and leaves.

This is a great example of how Judy can take a larger family with three generations and cover many different portraits. There are many permutations available when capturing large family photos, and it’s also harder to work with the group and keep the attention of children. But Judy is a professional at doing this, with over 10 years of experience with family photography and over 400 weddings under her belt (and with that over 400 family formal sessions after a wedding ceremony).

We chose a small park in San Dimas called Walnut Creek Park and Trail, which is ideal due to it’s many trails, trees, and a scenic wooden fence. It has plenty of space to handle a larger group.

Starting Family Photos with a Picture Frame Prop

We started the session with the first family and their three daughters, using a picture frame as a fun prop for a portrait in a portrait.

Then we got individual portraits of the three grandchildren, along with some of them all together.

Aren’t these three sisters so cute together!?

And just look at that backdrop. The trees and clumpy, natural grass with the sun coming in from above was just marvelous.

The we did the other family and their two sons (two grandsons).

And of course we have to get more family photos of the two brothers together being cute and all.

Large Family Photos with Three Generations

After doing a quick mini-session with each of the families, and the many grandkids all being warmed up to the camera by then, we did the whole large family photo. Two grandparents, two children, two in-laws, five grandchildren, three generations.

How cute is this photo of the grandchildren playing duck-duck-goose with balloons?

Jeffrey Open Space Family Photos

This is a great example of a large family photography portrait session involving three generations and two families. There were grandparents, children, and grandchildren in many different configurations, showing just how Judy can work with a large group. Judy is a master of this, since we have over 400 weddings under our belts (and thus over 400 large family photography formals). We are also very familiar with large Asian family photos (in this case, large Chinese family photos).

This portrait session took place at Jeffrey Open Space Trail and Park in Irvine, Orange County. Irvine is home to many local parks and recreational spaces that are great for family photography.
