Starting with Brother and Sister Portraits

Here are the two, both dressed and matching in blue, brother and sister hanging out. How cute are these family photos?!

The brother started playing the guitar. We love it when our families bring props for a photo session, since it adds personality and flair to it. The guitar is something specific to their family.

And now the whole family

We started capturing the whole family after easing in with the brother-sister family photos.

We found a rocky creek bed or stream bed for another backdrop for our portraits.

We then got more family photos in front of a tunnel in Irvine.

Judy started the family photography session with both of these cute sisters, being loving sisters.

Oh and this year they had a new addition to their family; a new and adorable puppy!

And here is the whole {R} family together for a family portrait.

Here is are family photos with a large tree where we could sit them on it like a log. This is one of the reasons we love doing family photography at Jeffrey Open Trail.

Then we went down the path to a tunnel, which makes a great backdrop for these family portraits. Orange County family photos are seamless when you have a beautiful location to shoot at.

After the tunnel, we headed to a small creek bed for more Irvine family photos. Gotta love the cute leg extension!

And it’s always nice to get photos of the parents together, by themselves.

And here is their cute little puppy dog all by itself.

These are family photos in Irvine, at the Jeffrey Open Trail and Park. There are two adorable daughters and a puppy dog. This family is one of the families we get to see year after year, watching their family grow and mature. It’s a real pleasure and honor to be a part of that.

Family Photos in San Dimas

Starting with their son

We started the session with their cute toddler son, soon to be an older brother.

Just look at this picturesque hiking trail in San Dimas. Family photos on this trail practically take themselves.

After that we got some family photos of just the mom and dad together, relishing in their pregnancy.

Maternity Photos with the Mom

We then snapped some frames of just the mom by her pregnant self. Maternity photography is something that brings out the glow in a mother’s changed body, and we can certainly see her glow in the forest of trees and greenery.

They laid down a picnic blanket for some family photos of them all sitting down.

San Dimas Maternity Photography

After the family photos, we switched to just maternity photos, with our mother in a long white shawl and a white bathing suit. This is a great example of San Dimas maternity photography and how we use our knowledge of local locations to create these images.

We absolutely love the way this ray of sunshine highlights her pregnant belly with a glow that can only be described as ethereal.

This is a combination family photography and maternity photography session at Walnut Creek Park. San Dimas maternity photography is a specialty of Judy and she brings a soft touch and friendly voice to each portrait session. She knows what it is like having a pregnant belly and how that can make a mother feel amazing, and not amazing at the same time. We work at capturing the angles, poses, and lighting that make our pregnant mothers feel amazing.

San Dimas Family Photography

We started with individual portraits with the daughter and her HUGE balloon.

How cute are these family photos with balloons and a happy, pregnant mother?

We brought their daughter back into the mix of family and maternity photos. This is a really cute photo of them all kissing.

And how cute are these pregnant mommy and daughter photos?

Then they laid out a picnic setup, including the balloons for decoration and a blanket and wooden crate. They had a Minnie Mouse stuffed toy too, which their daughter loved playing with.

Walnut Creek Park Family Photos

These are family photos taken at the Walnut Creek Park in San Dimas, a small local gem in our hometown. It’s a beautiful place to showcase a family that is growing, and a beautiful place to showcase a mother that is expecting. The session above shows how we can handle a pregnant mother and a toddler child in the same session, bring the whole family together in the combined family photos. San Dimas is a local location, which means we discount it when shooting in San Dimas, La Verne, Claremont, Covina, or Glendora. This portrait session includes elements with the color yellow and pink, specifically yellow balloons and pink balloons. They were surrounded by trees and greenery in this picturesque location.

Starting our Irvine Family Photos

We started with the two older daughters, who were both wearing adorable white dresses.

And then we got the whole family together. The youngest woke up from her nap on the grumpy side, so we made the best of the situation and got the best family photos we could.

Here are some more family portraits of the daughters in a field of grass in Irvine. Family photography at Jeffrey Open Space Trail is a dream with these awesome subjects.

And it’s always nice getting some portraits of the parents by themselves, who with three daughters I can only imagine don’t get much time to themselves

We walked over to a dry creek bed for a change in scenery.

This is a an Irvine family photography portrait session done at Jeffrey Open Space Trail in Orange County. Irvine is a large, affluent suburb in Orange County and is host to many local parks, like this one. Family photos are a specialty of Judy, who can work with a family (even when one of the kids aren’t cooperating too well). This Irvine family photography session has three daughters (three children), and shows how we can play with that and the many combinations coming from it.

Starting the Maternity Photos with a Stuffed Toy

We started the pregnancy photos with a stuffed animal for their little baby girl.

Here are pregnancy photos of our pregnant mother holding a pink parasol umbrella, wearing a two-tone white and red maternity dress.

This serene and natural field surrounded by trees framed our loving couple perfectly.

We then took them to a nearby stream for more pregnancy photos. We always worry about the safety of our pregnant couples, so we brought a safe bug spray without deet.

Changing her Maternity Dress

And then we got more maternity photos next to a fallen tree or log. She switched her maternity dress to a more muted pink and turquoise dress.

And the name of the baby girl … ABBY! A convenient anagram for baby.

They also brought the printout of the sonogram as a prop for the maternity photography portrait session.

Maternity Photos San Dimas

This is a San Dimas maternity photography portrait session at Walnut Creek Park. Our pregnant couple brought lots of props and accessories, including a baby elephant stuffed animal, wooden blocks that spell the baby’s name (Abby), a printout of the sonogram, and a pink parasol umbrella. Our pregnant mother wore a two-tone white and red maternity dress for the first half of the session. For the second half, she switched to a pink and turquoise maternity dress. When changing outfits, we always recommend timing it correctly and accurately, since we’d rather be taking more pregnancy photos than waiting for clothing changes. More than one change during a session is not recommended due to time restraints. San Dimas is our hometown, and we offer discounted prices for sessions done here locally.

Starting at a Creek Bed in Irvine

We started in a dry creek bed with rocks, leaves, and trees in the background, doing individual family portraits of their daughter.

Then we got the whole family together for family photos.

Our mother is a survivor and proud amputee, so it’s awesome seeing her over the years wear that with confidence.

We walked over to a small field covered in small purple wildflowers and long grass.

Then we took the time to get our parents for couple photos together. We had shot their wedding a long time ago, so it’s really cool revisiting that connection.

We did this family photography portrait session at Jeffrey Open Space Trail in Irvine, bordering the Woodbury and Northwood neighborhoods. They have one daughter (only child) and are a loving family of three. The park is Jeffrey Open Space Trail in Irvine, a beautiful local park with grass fields, trees, and a dry creek bed. We like this location for people that want very natural and green elements to their family photography.

We started with family portraits of the two daughters, and how adorable is them hugging!?

We also got individual portraits of each child.

Orange County Family Photography

This is the Orange County family photography portrait session of the {R} family in Irvine, shot at Jeffrey Open Space Trail and Park. Orange County is home to many local parks and is a popular place for family photos. Jeffrey Open Space Trail is a perfect spot for their family photography session, featuring open grass fields, lovely trees, and a small creek bed with rocks. They have two daughters, which is what personally have too. We have spent a good deal of time tagging all of our articles on this blog, so you can find many examples of different portraits sessions. Starting Family Photos with a Picture Frame Prop

We started the session with the first family and their three daughters, using a picture frame as a fun prop for a portrait in a portrait.

Then we got individual portraits of the three grandchildren, along with some of them all together.

Aren’t these three sisters so cute together!?

And just look at that backdrop. The trees and clumpy, natural grass with the sun coming in from above was just marvelous.

And of course we have to get more family photos of the two brothers together being cute and all.

Large Family Photos with Three Generations

After doing a quick mini-session with each of the families, and the many grandkids all being warmed up to the camera by then, we did the whole large family photo. Two grandparents, two children, two in-laws, five grandchildren, three generations.

Jeffrey Open Space Family Photos

This is a great example of a large family photography portrait session involving three generations and two families. There were grandparents, children, and grandchildren in many different configurations, showing just how Judy can work with a large group. Judy is a master of this, since we have over 400 weddings under our belts (and thus over 400 large family photography formals). We are also very familiar with large Asian family photos (in this case, large Chinese family photos).

This portrait session took place at Jeffrey Open Space Trail and Park in Irvine, Orange County. Irvine is home to many local parks and recreational spaces that are great for family photography.

Starting the Maternity Photos at a Wooden Fence

We started at a wooden fence, getting the amazing rays of sunlight coming through the trees.

Moving on to a Trail in San Dimas

We then walked over to a dirt trail nearby. One thing we think about during a maternity photography portrait session is that our pregnant mothers are sometimes hindered and can’t access locations easily. We pick spots that are easy to access from cars and aren’t strenuous for our pregnant mothers.

And just look at that glow in their faces. There is something about being pregnant that brings that out in a mother.

Maternity Photography Glendora

This is a maternity photography session in Glendora and San Dimas (right on the border between the two cities). San Dimas is our hometown and we love shooting in our local spots, offering a discount for family and maternity photography prices. Glendora is a host to many parks and trails, especially since it is right up against the San Gabriel mountains.

Judy has a very gentle hand with pregnancy photos and understands quite personally what it is like to be pregnant (and to take portraits while pregnant). This sensitivity and understanding helps her guide a pregnant mother through the maternity photography session, getting better photos and making it much more enjoyable.
